Seiko Epson Corporation, commonly known as Seiko, acquired the Orient Watch Company in 2009. This acquisition allowed Seiko to expand its presence in the watch industry and further diversify its product offerings. Orient Watch Company is known for its own line of watches and has a history of producing affordable and well-regarded mechanical timepieces.
This Orient Epson watch, model F490-UAA0 is a discontinued model, hence it has become somewhat, a Collector's Item amongst the Orient Faithfull due to its quality, solid construction, colour scheme and accuracy.
Due to its relatively young age, this watch was only given a basic servicing clean-up and calibration on 20 August 2023. It should be able to operate unhindered for the next 5 to 10 years at the very least thereby providing the owner peace of mind.
This beautifully shaped silver case also underwent a good rub after ultrasonic cleaning while maintaining its super sexy curves. Most imperfections were removed without compromising the case shape. The crystal is original and was also given a good polish.
The crown is original and is located at the 3H position and is nicely tucked away yet easily accessible. The date / day quickset works flawlessly by pulling out the crown to the first level, and the second level for hands adjustment.
The day is in English and Spanish - cool!
Equipped with the F490 movement, it has 21 Jewels that operate at 21,600 beats per hour (BPH) giving it excellent accuracy and longevity. The time-grapher, after 60 hours of calibration, shows very impressive readings i.e. rate of +16 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 159 with a straight line! Such readings are exceptional even by brand new modern automatic watch standards whereby the accepted tolerance is -20 to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent 40hr power reserve and longevity for such a timepiece, and of course the painstaking calibration conducted.
The case width and height are approximately 39mm (without crown) and 44mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm and the bracelet can accommodate wrists up to 21cm; hence, this watch is suitable for men and the modern women.
The SS bracelet is an original stamped Orient. It too was given a good ultrasonic clean-up and rub, and is now in very good condition.
The watch is 100% original Orient components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket parts.
Even though the seals and gaskets are present, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.
The pictures provided show the watch’s case in almost perfect condition and well maintained. Even though it is a "young watch," it has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear & tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A nice purposeful carrying case or box will be provided instead.
Yes, there are many other similar models in the market, BUT it is almost impossible to source for this particular model with the same quality and maintained condition as what you see here. Hence, it is a no-brainer that the value of this discontinued timepiece will appreciate over time.
This discontinued Orient Epson F490 has become a sort-after timepiece; so, be unique and wear something that is almost impossible to source.
This is a must-have for the Orient die-hard fan, and in fact, any serious watch collector!
