Aureole Watch Co was created in 1868 by Philidor Wolf in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Aureole produced some of its own movements, specializing in quality lever-watches. For a time, they also produced chronographs, ultra-slim watches and repetitions. It then moved into the wristwatch market by combining in-house calibers with high-end design and well-finished cases. The models followed one after the other over the decades, particularly in 1932 with one of the first wristwatches to have the date in an aperture (rectangular watch case, date at 12 o’clock). This concept of course is now widespread.

From 1933, Aureole offered water-resistant, steel watches. In 1941, during the WW2, the company was handed over to Lutz et Burkhardt.

In 1948 it was taken over by Marcel Choffat who relaunched it with new talent. During this “hip renaissance,” it produced up to 400,000 pieces in 1968. Around 1940s, Aureole, like countless other Swiss watchmakers began focusing on chronograph watches due to the growing interest for complicated watches.

It was the boom of the 50s that you'd see, many chronograph watches flying all over the watch market. They were as complicated as they can get, the quirkiness of owning one was undeniably satisfying, and apparently, Aureole was one of them. By this time, Aureole had already established its name, keeping patrons intact for their brand.

Aureole watches were characterized by their timeless and understated designs. The brand often focused on creating watches with simple, yet sophisticated aesthetics that appealed to a wide range of consumers.

Like many Swiss watchmakers, Aureole placed a strong emphasis on quality craftsmanship and precision. The brand utilized fine materials and Swiss-made movements to ensure the reliability and accuracy of its timepieces.

While Aureole watches were known for their quality and design, they were not as widely available as some of the larger Swiss watch brands. As a result, Aureole timepieces are often considered to be Collectibles among watch enthusiasts.

Today, vintage Aureole watches are sought after by Collectors due to their historical significance and classic design aesthetics. Collectors appreciate the opportunity to own a piece of Swiss watchmaking history and often seek out well-preserved examples of Aureole timepieces.

Here we have a modern Aureole Diver timepiece. The dial is midnight black with white luminous Baton Indices and Alpha / Lance hands equipped with lumens that are operable. Cool! They were given a good clean-up and are now in near mint condition.

This watch has a homage case ala Rolex with a gold-rimmed bezel and black bezel insert with numerals. It was given a good buff and is in excellent condition albeit miniscule scratches that is common with aged watches.

The crown is located at 3H in between the crown guards yet easily accessible.

A proper servicing was conducted and a new battery installed on 10 May 2024 thereby providing the owner peace of mind until the next battery change. The crown has been uncorked to preserve the battery.

The unsigned 2 tone Oyster bracelet is original, and it too was given a good clean-up and buff.

The pictures provided shows the watch in stunning condition (no dents and major scratches), and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear + tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A brand-new EVA pouch is provided instead.

A simple, stylish yet quality built sporty divers watch that is excellent value for money.
