Revue Thommen was founded in 1853 in Waldenburg, Switzerland, by Gédéon Thommen. Originally, the company was not focused on watches but on the production of cylinder escapements, a crucial component in timekeeping devices.

In 1859, the company, under the name Société d'Horlogerie à Waldenburg, shifted its focus to producing complete watches. Gédéon Thommen's involvement led to significant improvements in production processes, making the company a respected name in Swiss horology.

The name "Revue" was adopted for the brand’s watches, reflecting the company’s commitment to high standards in watchmaking. The brand became known for producing high-quality pocket watches and wristwatches.

Revue Thommen was notable for producing its own in-house movements, which were regarded for their reliability and precision.

Revue Thommen continued to innovate in the wristwatch sector throughout the mid-20th century. However, like many Swiss watchmakers, Revue Thommen faced challenges during the Quartz Crisis of the 1970s and 1980s when the industry was disrupted by the advent of quartz technology. Despite the challenges, the company continued to produce mechanical watches, maintaining its commitment to traditional Swiss craftsmanship.

In recent years, Revue Thommen has continued to produce both wristwatches and aviation instruments, staying true to its roots in precision engineering.

Here we have the Revue Sports 1930s Re-Edition watch, which is a tribute to Revue Thommen's legacy in producing quality sports watches with a timeless design. By reissuing this model, Revue Thommen has successfully blended the brand's historical significance with contemporary watchmaking, offering a piece that resonates with both vintage watch collectors and modern enthusiasts. The Re-Edition stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of classic Swiss watch design and the continued relevance of Revue Thommen in the modern watch market.

The first Re-Edition of 300 watches was launched in 2003 followed by the second Re-Edition launch in 2008 of 4,999 watches. This is the 2,633 of 4,999.

Even though this timepiece is less than 20 years old, it had nonetheless undergone a good and thorough clean-up that revealed a beautifully preserved black Dial, Lumen Arabic Numeral Indices and Lumen Cathedral Hands. The lumens work! Cool!

Its classic silver case was buffed as best as possible without compromising its shape and lines albeit a few minor scratches that are barely noticeable. The original crystal was buffed and is now in excellent condition.

The signed crown is located at the traditional 3H position and is easily accessible. The hands quickset is adjusted via the traditional method of uncorking the crown and turning the crown accordingly.

The movement was carefully stripped, meticulously cleaned, oiled, re-assembled, and calibrated on 23 August 2024. In short, it was given a thorough servicing and should be able to operate unhindered until the next servicing thereby giving the owner peace of mind.

The 17J Revue signed mechanical movement operates at 19,800 BPH. The time-grapher, shows stunning readings of 0 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 202. Such readings are truly exceptional even by brand new modern automatic watch standards whereby the acceptable tolerance is -20 to + 40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve, the meticulous care provided over the years, and the painstaking calibration conducted.

The case width and height are approx. 33.5mm (w/o crown) and 41mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm and the bracelet can accommodate wrists up to 16cm; thus suitable for men and women.

The timepiece comes with its original Revue Thommen Signed Oyster Designed SS Bracelet that underwent a thorough cleaning and buff.

To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Revue Thommen components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket or modified parts.

Even though the seals and gaskets are in place, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.

The pictures provided shows the watch in stunning condition (no dents and major scratches), and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear + tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box, so a simple aftermarket box / pouch will be provided instead.

This extremely rare watch will make a beautiful birthday present for that special someone, and its value will appreciate over time.

Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and preserved for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.

Do also bear in mind that it will cost between S$ 180.00 to S$ 200.00 for a thorough servicing, and an estimated S$ 100.00 to calibrate, and S$ 80.00 to clean and buff the case + bracelet - these costs do not apply when purchasing this timepiece. So, if anyone was to sell such a timepiece at a low price yet claim that it has been serviced, one has to ask what kind of servicing was conducted, if any.

This is a highly sort-after Revue Thommen Sports 1930 Re-Edition Mini-Seconds in stunning condition; so, be unique and wear a watch that is almost impossible to source in such fine condition.
