The isle of Arran is situated on the south west coast of Scotland and the distillery’s exact location is in the village of Lochranza.
Officially opened on the 29th June 1995, it is independently owned with the intention of producing the purest and most exciting expressions the market has to offer.
The water source is from the Loch na Davie and is verified as one of the purest of waters found in the world. With the unique climate only found in the Isle of Arran, the Gulf Stream effect contributes to the rapid maturation of the Spirit.
The Arran Distillery was the first ever on the isle of Arran since 1836; and although the distillery was "recently" opened, the soul of the distillery believes in traditional methods of distillation though in a modern context. Thus, the wash-backs are made from Oregon pinewood and not the modern stainless-steel types commonly found in many modern distilleries. The focus is strictly on quality instead of quantity; hence the distillery is more of a boutique distillery with a hand-crafted approach to the production of single malts whiskies.
Since 1995, the Arran Distillery has won ‘The Queen’s Award for Enterprise’ which is the highest business honour in the UK; and in 2007, Arran Distilleries was named the ‘Scottish Distiller of the Year’ in an industry poll by Whisky Magazine.
The Arran Whisky Glass is slightly larger than the standard Glencairn Glass but with almost the same bottom curves and narrow mouth that allows emphasis on the expression's bouquet.
Made from quality glass, it is sturdy and does not tip or break easily due to its weighted bottom and unique shape and mouth.
A must have for all whisky lovers.
