BIRTHDAY WATCH IS A WATCH THAT WAS PRODUCED THE SAME MONTH AND YEAR AS SOMEONE'S BIRTHDAY.
This very unique and rare vintage December 1982 Seiko 5 6309-8900 has a well preserved charcoal black dial with grey chapter ring with white numerals.
The Indices are in very good condition that has been meticulously cleaned, so too the movement. The Day and Date works as it should. Everything except the 20mm genuine leather strap are original, thereby it is considered in excellent condition, what with its age of 40 odd years being taken into consideration.
The genuine black leather strap is brand new and matches the charcoal black dial face. It also helps accentuate the grey chapter ring with white numerals.
For Seiko Collectors and Vintage fans, THIS IS A SEIKO SUWA in excellent condition! This solid steel watch is in excellent condition. Minor scratches are mostly found on the back case albeit a few are on the front case which are not easily noticeable unless you are looking for them.
The crown is located at its traditional 4H position and tucked away nicely to prevent damage or snags.
Equipped with the famous 6309 movement, it has 17 jewels and operate at 21,600 BHP giving it excellent longevity and accuracy. The time-grapher shows excellent readings i.e. rate of +10 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 175. Such readings are very hard to be found even in modern brand new automatic watches which is in the region of -20-to +40 seconds! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve and longevity for such a vintage timepiece, and of course the meticulous care provided over the years.
The case width and height are approximately 26.5mm and 41mm respectively, and the lug width / strap width is 20mm. This is a very unique watch because seldom can one find a vintage with a 20mm lug to lug; hence, the watch is suitable for men and the modern women.
This wonderful watch operates in the traditional method of adjusting the functioning date and day.
Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear & tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and an original box, so an aftermarket box / pouch is provided instead.
Seldom can one find a vintage watch that offers this and more. Yes, there are many other same / similar models in the market, BUT none are as well kept and maintained as what you see here, and with an attractive price to boot. Hence, it is a no-brainer that this one-of-a-kind watch will make an extremely beautiful birthday present for that special someone born in December 1982.
Another no-brainer is the fact that the value of this watch will appreciate over time because the 6309 movement is a thing of beauty, and so too the entire watch. Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and well taken care of for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.
The cost to service / overhaul and polish this timepiece is easily S$ 300.00, and the high quality leather strap is worth $45.00. An un-serviced with existing strap is valued in the region of S$ 160.00 to S$ 180.00 but I'm selling this fully serviced watch with new strap at S$ 149.00 for the next owner to appreciate what it has to offer.
This is a highly sort-after Seiko 5 December 1982 6309-8900 with an excellent face, silver case and black leather strap; so, be unique and use something that is almost impossible to source.
