According to most legitimate online information available, the Seiko 6309 movement made its debut in 1976 and lasted until 1988.
This movement was extremely successful and was used in numerous vintage models including the famous 6309-7040 diver's watch which became affectionately known as the "Turtle."
For Seiko Collectors and Vintage fans, THIS IS A SEIKO 5 SUWA in excellent condition.
This unique 6309-8830 Automatic has a creamy white Dial that has aged gracefully with patina (wabi-sabi) - the result - a Roman marble effect that compliments the silvery brown Chapter Ring and silver case. The two-toned silver / black indices and black hands with a gold second hand adds to the contrasts.
This beautifully preserved watch was properly stripped and every part meticulously cleaned via ultrasonic immersion, oiled and re-assembled in May 2022. It should be able to operate without servicing for the next 5 years at the very least.
The classic cylindrical shaped silver case was buffed as best as possible; however, there are some hairline scratches present. The acrylic glass was also buffed and is in very good condition.
Everything within the case including the crown is 100% original thereby it is considered in almost mint condition, what with its age of 41 years being taken into consideration.
The vintage designed chocolate brown genuine leather strap with white stitching and silver buckle adds pizzazz to the silver case and roman marble beige dial, and is extremely comfortable to wear. The Buyer has the right to choose a different design and colour genuine leather strap from my array of straps should he / she wishes to do so.
The crown is located at the traditional 4H position and is nicely tucked away to prevent damage or snags yet it is easily accessible. The date / day quickset works flawlessly by pulling out the crown to the first level to adjust the date and day via clockwise and counterclockwise. The time is adjusted by pulling the crown out to the second level.
Equipped with the 6309 movement, it has 17 Jewels that operate at 21,600 beats per hour (BPH) giving it excellent longevity and accuracy. The time-grapher shows excellent readings ie rate of +16 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 170. Such readings are very hard to be found even in modern brand new automatic watches whereby the accepted tolerance is -2- to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve and longevity for such a vintage timepiece, and of course the meticulous care provided over the years.
The case width and height are approximately 36mm (without crown) and 40mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm, hence the watch size is suitable for men and the modern women.
Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.
The pictures provided show the watch’s case in pristine condition (no dents and major scratches), and the movement within is squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear & tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A nice purposeful carrying case or box will be provided instead.
Seldom can one find a vintage watch that offers this and more. Yes, there are many other same / similar models in the market, BUT none are as well-kept and maintained as what you see here, and with an attractive price to boot. So, it is a no-brainer that this one-of-a-kind watch will make an extremely beautiful birthday present for that special someone born in October 1982! Another no-brainer is the fact that the value of this watch will appreciate over time.
Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and well taken care of for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.
Valued between S$ 90.00 to S$ 170.00 on various auction / online sites from really horrible, un-serviced or "as is" condition to refurbished pristine condition models (Note: the mentioned prices do not include commissions, taxes and freight costs etc). It is being sold here for S$ 149.00 which is extremely reasonable. So, NO LOW-BALLERS, please! Take note that low-ballers, trolls and wannabe advisors (whose "advise" is completely unwelcomed) will not be entertained, and should they persist, they will be reported and blocked!
My range of watches are only meant for truly sincere Buyers who appreciate quality and the service provided, so, for heaven's sake, let us not waste each others time by inquiring without the true intention to purchase. Too many idiot low-ballers and competition behave in such unscrupulous and shameful manner and they should be made known to the public and shunned.
Do also bear in mind that it will cost at least S$ 200.00 - 300.00 for a proper overhaul service + polishing for such a watch, and another S$ 40.00 for a good quality genuine leather - these costs do not apply when purchasing this timepiece.
This is a truly classic October 1982 Seiko 5 SUWA in very good condition; so, be unique and use something that is almost impossible to source.
