According to most reliable on-line sources, Seiko DAINI's 5100 movement range made its debut in 1967 with the introduction of the 5106 Seikomatic-P. The 5146 Hi-Beat (28,800 BHP) movement Presmatic was introduced in 1969.

The Seiko Presmatic 5146 movement is truly unique, and it was way ahead of its time. It is a high precision timepiece equipped with a ball raced auto-weight with hacking features. It also has an "instant" day / date change, thus both day and date will change simultaneously at the stroke of midnight which is highly impressive.

The 5146 was the last 51XX to go out of service in 1971; hence it became a Collectible almost immediately.

Designed for the sporty business executive in mind, this classy 5146-7040 27 Jewel Automatic has an immaculately preserved reflective Silver Sunburst Dial that creates a two-tone effect from certain angles which is extremely pleasing to the eye. Its black + silver bar indices and hands, and silver day/date window are also in pristine condition.

This beautifully preserved watch was carefully stripped and meticulously cleaned via ultrasonic immersion, oiled and re-assembled in August 2022. It should be able to operate unhindered until the next servicing thereby providing the owner peace of mind.

The case and crystal were given a proper rub-down to remove almost all main scratches, and is now extremely pleasing to the eye albeit a miniscule number of hairline scratches that are barely unnoticeable.

The crown is original and located at its traditional 3H position and is easily accessible. The quick day and date set works flawlessly and operates in the traditional Presmatic method of adjusting the date and hands.

Equipped with the famous 5146 movement, it has 27 Jewels giving it an extremely high level of accuracy. The time-grapher shows excellent readings i.e. rate of -2 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 241! Such readings are extremely exceptional even for brand new modern automatic watch standards whereby the accepted tolerance is -20 to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve and longevity for such a vintage timepiece, the meticulous care provided over the years, and of course, the painstaking expert calibration.

The case width and height are approximately 36mm (without crown) and 40mm respectively. The lug to lug is 18mm and the strap can accommodate wrists up to 20cm; hence suitable for men and the modern women.

The two-tone leather strap easily brings out the best features of this vintage silver sunburst face and watch case with ease.

To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket or modified parts.

Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.

The pictures provided shows the watch case in immaculate condition (no dents and major scratches), and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear + tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original case, so a simple aftermarket box / pouch will be provided.
