According to most reliable online sources, the Seiko 7005 movement made its debut in 1969 and was one of the main movements for mid-range Seiko's until 1979.
This movement was also used in the iconic 7005-80XX diver's series.
This is a highly sort-after Seiko DAINI, Model 7005-8160 17 Jewel Automatic wristwatch due to its unique dial, case design and "P" model.
Deep cleaning was conducted on this rare July 1973 Seiko that has revealed a beautiful and immaculately preserved silver sunburst dial, 3D silver baton indices, hands and date window.
The dial gives off a greenish hue that makes the dial cream green at certain angles - beautiful! The 3D silver indices and hand lumens are operable; however, the hands lumens do show a certain amount of aging.
The unique rectangle portrait shaped case with sexy diagonal contours was cleaned and buffed to near perfection albeit miniscule hairline scratches on case and back case are present but barely visible. The acrylic crystal is brand new.
The crown is located at the traditional 3H position and is easily accessible. The date and hand quickset works as it should by uncorking the crown to the first and second levels for respective adjustments.
The movement was carefully stripped, meticulously cleaned, oiled, re-assembled and basic calibration conducted in October 2022; hence, it underwent a full servicing and not a general servicing. It should be able to operate unhindered until the next servicing thereby providing the owner peace of mind.
Equipped with the 7005 movement, it has 17 Jewels and operate at 21,600 BPH. The time-grapher shows excellent readings of 0 seconds and amplitude of 211!
The case width and height are approximately 35mm (w/o crown) and 41.5mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm and the strap can accommodate wrists up to 21cm; hence, this watch is suitable for men and the modern women.
A brand-new crocodile designed genuine leather strap with silver buckle comes with the watch. Green was chosen to marry with the greenish hue the dial produces.
To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket parts or modified thereby it is considered in near mint condition.
Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.
The pictures provided show the watch in pristine condition (no dents and major scratches), and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear + tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A nice purposeful carrying case or box will be provided.
Seldom can one find a vintage watch that offers this and more. Yes, there are many other same / similar models in the market, BUT none are as well-kept and maintained as what you see here, and with an attractive price to boot. So, it is a no-brainer that this one-of-a-kind watch will make an extremely beautiful birthday present for that special someone born in July1973! Another no-brainer is the fact that the value of this watch will appreciate over time.
Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life and should be cherished and well taken care of for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.
Do also bear in mind that it will cost between S$ 120.00 to S$ 150.00 for a proper servicing, an estimated S$ 80.00 to calibrate (depending on watch condition), and S$ 100.00 to clean and polish including tightening of bracelet links - these costs do not apply when purchasing this timepiece. So, if anyone was to sell such a timepiece at a low price yet claim that it has been serviced, one has to ask what kind of servicing was conducted, if any.
This is a truly magnificent July 1973 Seiko 7005-8160-P DAINI in near mint condition with a beautifully preserved vintage dial, indices, hands, movement and case; so, be unique and wear a watch that is near impossible to source or purchase it for that someone special.
This classic is a must-have for the Seiko die-hard fan, or any vintage watch fan for that matter!
