According to reliable online sources, the 7002 movement made its debut in 1988 and it ceased production in 1997. This watch series, including the Seiko 7002-7039, was part of Seiko's dive watch lineup that succeeded the earlier Seiko 6309 series. The 7002 series continued Seiko's tradition of producing reliable and durable dive watches, and it gained popularity among both divers and watch enthusiasts. It was finally replaced by the SKX07 7S26 series in 1997.
The Seiko 7002-7039 features a classic divers watch design with a stainless steel case and a unidirectional rotating bezel thereby allowing divers to track their dive time accurately.
For Seiko Collectors and Vintage fans, this is a Seiko 7002-7039 in near-mint condition that comes with the original Singapore assembled 7002 movement that had acquired Collectors status recently due to its rarity and higher quality.
Unlike other 7002 diver models, this is a 7039 silver case that is in superb condition with its super sharp lines and is beautifully maintained but nonetheless, it was given a good ultrasonic wash and buff. Most imperfections were removed without compromising the case shape and lines but there are still miniscule scratches remaining that are almost invisible to the naked eye. The classical designed flat crystal is original and it too was given a good buff. The bezel has been serviced as well and functions firmly yet with ease. The dial and hands were carefully cleaned to reveal its almost mint condition. The hand lumens are operable - cool!
The crown is located at the traditional 4H position and is nicely tucked away to prevent damage or snags. The date and hands quickset works flawlessly by pulling out the crown to the first and second level respectively.
The movement was carefully stripped and meticulously cleaned via ultrasonic immersion, oiled, re-assembled and calibrated on 19 August 2023. In short, it underwent an overhaul and not a basic service and should be able to operate unhindered for the next 5 to 10 years at the very least thereby providing the owner peace of mind.
Equipped with the excellent Singapore-made 7002 movement, it operates at 21,600 beats per hour (BPH) giving it outstanding accuracy and longevity. The time-grapher shows excellent readings i.e. rate of 0 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 159 in a somewhat straight line! Such readings are truly exceptional even by brand new modern automatic watch standards whereby the accepted tolerance is -20 to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve and longevity for such a vintage timepiece, the meticulous care provided over the years, and of course the painstaking expert calibration conducted.
The case width and height are approximately 42mm (without crown) and 44.5mm respectively. The lug width is 22mm and the strap can accommodate wrists up to 21cm; hence, this watch is suitable for men and the modern women.
A brand new customised Seiko Homage SS bracelet is provided. It comes with high-quality solid curved ends for a firmer grip and better lifespan. The buckle is also engraved with the Singapore Commando logo. An aftermarket Seiko silicon green strap is also provided as part of the deal.
To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket parts or modified thereby it is considered in near MINT condition.
Even though the seals and gaskets are intact, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested due to its age.
The pictures provided show the watch’s case in excellent condition and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear & tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A nice purposeful carrying case or box will be provided instead.
Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and well taken care of for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.
Yes, there are many other same / similar models in the market, BUT almost all are not in the same quality condition and is well maintained as what you see here. IN FACT, MANY 7002s FOUND ONLINE ARE EQUIPPED WITH 7009 PARTS HENCE THEIR "ATTRACTIVE" PRICE. So, it is a no-brainer that this one-of-a-kind watch will make an extremely beautiful birthday present for that someone special born in July 1995! Another no-brainer is the fact that the value of this watch will appreciate over time.
This is a highly sort-after Seiko 7002-7039 Collectors in 100% authentic Seiko 7002 components that is in excellent condition; so, be unique and wear something that is almost impossible to source.
This is a must-have for the Seiko die-hard fan, and in fact, any serious watch collector!
