According to most reliable online sources, the Seiko 6319 movement made its debut circa October 1976.
The 6319 is an improved version of the 6309. It comes with 21 jewels instead of 17, it was supposed to be more accurate and was used in many Seiko 5 Sports models.
For Seiko Collectors and Vintage fans, this is a highly sort-after Seiko SUWA, Model 6319-6000 21 Jewel Automatic Watch. The 6319 movement is becoming scarcer as the days go by thus, it is not only a classic vintage but beyond a doubt, this watch will become a Collectible in the very near future.
This seldom seen April 1978 Vintage Seiko 5 Sports has a simple yet beautiful midnight black Dial, Sweep Second, Day, and Date; and a unique inner Rotating Bezel that is in good working condition which is extremely hard to find such a watch with this feature working. This bezel is adjusted by rotating the crown when it is in its closed position - extremely cool for a 45 year old watch! The white minute indices, plain black Chapter Ring and silver hands are also in very good condition after a good clean-up.
Its typical sports 5 shaped silver case was buffed as best as possible and looks awesome but miniscule hairline scratches may be present but unnoticeable unless one is searching for them. The crystal is original and is in very good condition.
The crown is located at the traditional 4H position and neatly tucked away to prevent damage and unwanted snags. The date / day quickset works flawlessly by pulling out the crown to the first level for date and day adjustment, and the time setting is via pulling the crown to the second level.
The Day is in French and English - Cool!
The movement was carefully stripped and meticulously cleaned, oiled, re-assembled and calibrated. In should be able to operate unhindered for the next 5 to 10 years at the least thereby providing the owner peace of mind.
Equipped with the 6319 movement, it has 21 Jewels that operate at 21,600 beats per hour (BPH) giving it excellent longevity and accuracy. The time-grapher, after 60 hours of calibration, shows excellent readings i.e. rate of -5 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 230 in a relative straight line! Such readings are highly exceptional even by brand new modern automatic watch standards whereby the accepted tolerance is -20 to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve and longevity for such a vintage timepiece, the meticulous care provided over the years, and of course the painstaking calibration conducted.
The case width and height are approximately 38mm (without crown) and 42.5mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm whilst the strap can accommodate wrists up to 21cm; hence, this watch is suitable for men and the modern women.
A brand new vintage designed genuine leather strap with silver buckle is provided.
To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket parts or modified thereby it is considered in near MINT condition.
Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.
The pictures provided show the watch’s case in excellent condition (no dents and major scratches), and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear & tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A nice purposeful carrying case or box will be provided.
Seldom can one find a vintage watch that offers this and more. Yes, there are many other same / similar models in the market, BUT none are as well-kept and maintained as what you see here, and with an attractive price to boot. So, it is a no-brainer that this one-of-a-kind watch will make an extremely beautiful birthday present for that dear someone born in April 1978! Another no-brainer is the fact that the value of this watch will appreciate over time.
Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and well taken care of for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.
This is a truly magnificent April 1978 Seiko 5 Sports SUWA 6319 in excellent condition with a well preserved vintage dial, chapter ring, indices, hands, movement, inner bezel and case; so, be unique and use something that is almost impossible to source.
This is a must-have for the Seiko die-hard fan, or any vintage watch fan for that matter!
