According to most legitimate online information available, the Seiko 6309 movement made its debut in 1976 and lasted until 1988.
This movement was extremely successful and was used in numerous vintage models including the famous 6309-7040 diver's watch which became affectionately known as the "Turtle." This timepiece was designed to add modernity yet remain sporty.
For Seiko Collectors and Vintage fans, THIS IS A SEIKO 5 Sports 6309 Pepsi SUWA in excellent condition.
This extremely rare timepiece has a well preserved angel white dial that shows practically no signs of aging. The lumens and hands are well preserved and work but rather faintly though.
This beautifully preserved watch was properly stripped and every part meticulously cleaned via ultrasonic immersion, oiled and re-assembled in January 2023. It should be able to operate without servicing for the next 5 to 10 years at the very least. In fact, it had undergone a complete restoration yet, all parts remain authentic and original - no aftermarket components found within.
The classic one piece shaped silver case was buffed as best as possible; however, there are some hairline scratches present. The original mineral glass was also buffed and is in excellent condition. A brand new original Pepsi Bezel Insert is used because the original bezel was missing when I purchased this timepiece. The SS Bracelet is original and has also been given an ultrasonic bath and a good rub.
Everything within the case including the crown is 100% original thereby it is considered in almost mint condition, what with its age of 38 years being taken into consideration.
The crown is located at its traditional 4H position and tucked away nicely to prevent damage or snags.
Equipped with the famous 6309 workhorse movement, it has 17 jewels and operate at 21,600 beats an hour giving it uncanny accuracy! The time-grapher shows excellent readings i.e. rate of 0 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 203! Such readings are very hard to be found even in modern brand new automatic watches! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve and longevity for such a vintage timepiece, and of course the meticulous care provided over the years.
The Day is in English and Roman Numerals, cool!
The Hands and Day/Date adjustments are via the traditional method of pulling the uncorked crown to the first and second level for date and time adjustment respectively.
Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.
The case width and height are approximately 39.0mm and 44.0mm respectively, and the lug width / strap width is 20mm; hence, the watch size is suitable for men and the modern women.
The pictures provided show the watch’s case is in immaculate condition (no dents and major scratches), and the movement within is squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear & tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box, so an aftermarket box / pouch will be provided instead.
Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cared and cherished for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.
This particular watch model in restored condition is valued between S$ 286.00 to S$ 574.00 on various auction / online sites from really horrible, un-serviced or "as is" condition to pristine and NOS standards (Note: the mentioned prices may / do not include commissions, taxes and freight costs etc.). It is being sold here for S$ 388.00 which is extremely reasonable for a fully restored watch in original condition.
Do also bear in mind that it will cost at least S$ 200.00 - S$ 300.00 to properly service / overhaul and polish such a watch - this cost does not apply when purchasing this timepiece. So, if anyone was to sell such a timepiece at a low price yet claim it has been serviced, one has to ask what kind of servicing was conducted, if any.
Seldom can one find a vintage watch that offers this and more. Yes, there are many other same / similar models in the market, BUT none are as well-kept and maintained as what you see here, and with an attractive price to boot.
Yes, there are many other same models in the market, BUT none are as well kept and maintained as what you see here, and with an attractive price to boot. Hence, it is a no-brainer that this one-of-a-kind watch will make an extremely beautiful birthday present for that someone special born in June 1985. Another no-brainer is the fact that the value of this watch will appreciate over time because the 6309 movement is a thing of beauty, and so too the entire watch.
This is a highly sort-after Seiko 5 Sports 6309 Diver's; so, be unique and use something that is almost impossible to source.
This is a must-have for the Seiko die-hard fan or a serious watch collector!
