According to most legitimate online information available, the Seiko 7S26 movement made its debut in 1996. This movement was the backbone of the Seiko 5 range and many other models such as the Diver SKX007 7S26 range and the SNK range.
The 7S26C was the last variant debuted in 2011. The 7S26 was discontinued in 2018 in favour of the 4R3X range that had hacking features.
This masculine Made in Japan 7S26B-3040 21 Jewel Automatic has an immaculately preserved Navy Blue dial, 3D silver baton indices, date / day window and silver / luminous hands after undergoing a thorough clean-up.
The typical Seiko 5 cylindrical shaped silver case and back case underwent a good ultrasonic cleaning and buffing; however, there are some miniscule hairline scratches present. The mineral glass is original and in is almost flawless after a good rub as well.
The crown is located at the traditional 4H position and is nicely tucked away to prevent damage or snags, yet it is easily accessible. The date / day quickset works flawlessly by pulling the crown out for adjustment. The time is adjusted by pulling the crown out to the second level.
The Day is in Spanish and English, cool!
The movement was carefully stripped and meticulously cleaned via ultrasonic immersion, oiled, re-assembled and calibrated on 15 August 2023. In short, it underwent an overhaul and should be able to operate unhindered for the next 5 to 10 years at the very least thereby giving the owner peace of mind.
Equipped with the 7S26 movement, it has 21 Jewels that operate at 21,600 beats per hour (BPH) with a power reserve of 41 hours giving it excellent accuracy and longevity respectively. The time-grapher shows excellent readings i.e. rate of 0 second every 24 hours and amplitude of 265 with a straight centered line! Such readings are extremely exceptional even for brand new modern automatic watches whereby the accepted tolerance is -20 to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve and longevity for such a vintage timepiece, the meticulous care provided over the years, and of course the painstaking expert calibration conducted.
The case width and height are approximately 37mm (without crown) and 42mm respectively. The lug width is 20mm and the bracelet can accommodate wrists up to 21cm; hence the watch size is suitable for men and the modern women.
The watch comes with its original Seiko 5 Signed SS bracelet that was also given a good ultrasonic wash and a good rub afterwards.
To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket parts or modified thereby it is considered in near MINT condition.
Even with all seals present, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested due to its age.
The pictures provided show the watch’s case in pristine condition (no dents and major scratches), and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear & tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A nice purposeful carrying case or box will be provided instead.
Seldom can one find a vintage watch that offers this and more. Yes, there are many other same / similar models in the market, BUT none are as well-kept and maintained as what you see here, and with an attractive price to boot. So, it is a no-brainer that this one-of-a-kind watch will make an extremely beautiful birthday present for that special someone born in September 2000! Another no-brainer is the fact that the value of this watch will appreciate over time.
Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and well taken care of for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.
This is a truly magnificent September 2000 Seiko 5 in near mint condition with a beautifully preserved dial, immaculate indices, hands, operable lumens, movement and case; so, be unique and use something that is almost impossible to source.
This is a must-have for the Seiko die-hard fan, or any vintage watch fan for that matter!
