According to most reliable online sources, this Seiko 402 mechanical movement made its debut in 1961 in the Seiko SUWA Skyliner. It was circa 1960 that Seiko abrogated the 3 digit to 4 digit model, thus the 402 also became known as the 6102.

The 402 movement is one of the most rarest mechanical movements and is one of the most highly sort after. THIS WATCH IS A COLLECTORS ITEM.

This is a highly sort-after Seiko 402 SUWA 20-micro Gold Filled Case, 14K solid-gold Hands and Indices, 21 Jewel Mechanical watch that comes with a hi-quality hand-stitched genuine leather strap.

This seldom seen 1961/1962 Vintage Seiko has a beautiful and immaculately preserved midnight black dial equipped with a silvery-white outer rim within a gold-filled case that underwent a thorough clean-up. The result - stunning beauty from practically every angle. The 3D-styled gold-filled Hands and Indices are also in superb condition.

The case and back case were buffed as best as possible albeit a few minor scratches that are barely noticeable to the naked eye. The crystal is also in excellent condition and given a good buff.

The crown is located at the traditional 3H position and is nicely tucked away to prevent damage or snags. The time quickset works flawlessly by pulling the crown out for adjustment.

The movement was given a basic service in 2011. It further underwent a complete overhaul including ultrasonic immersion, oiling, and servicing of its mainspring, and the entire watch calibrated on 10 August 2023. In short, it underwent a FULL overhaul and should be able to operate unhindered until the next servicing thereby providing the owner peace of mind.

Equipped with the 402 movement, it has 21 Jewels that operate at 18,000 beats per hour (BPH) giving it excellent longevity and accuracy. The time-grapher shows superb readings i.e. rate of 0 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 227 with a straight and centered line! Such readings are extremely exceptional even by brand new modern automatic watch standards whereby the accepted tolerance is -20 to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve and longevity for such a vintage timepiece, and of course the meticulous care provided over the years and expert calibration.

The case width and height are approximately 37mm (without crown) and 44mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm and the strap can accommodate wrists up to 21cm; hence suitable for men and the modern women.

A brand-new hi-quality genuine leather strap with gold buckle is included as part of the deal.

To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket parts or modified thereby it is considered in near MINT condition.

Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.

The pictures provided shows the watch case in pristine condition (no dents and major scratches), and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear & tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box; so a nice purposeful carrying case or box will be provided instead.

Seldom can one find a vintage watch that offers this and more. Yes, there are many other same / similar models in the market, BUT none are as well-kept and maintained as what you see here, and with an attractive price to boot. So, it is a no-brainer that this one-of-a-kind watch will make an extremely beautiful birthday present for that special someone! Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and well taken care of for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.

Do also bear in mind that it will cost between S$ 200.00 to S$ 250.00 for a proper overhaul, an estimated S$ 80.00 to calibrate (depending on watch condition), and S$ 100.00 to clean and polish including tightening of bracelet links (if any) - these costs do not apply when purchasing this timepiece. So, if anyone was to sell such a timepiece at a low price yet claim that it has been serviced, one has to ask what kind of servicing was conducted, if any.
