Roamer, founded by Fritz Meyer in 1888 in Solothurn, Switzerland, has long been celebrated for its commitment to quality craftsmanship and innovative watchmaking. The Roamer Standard series embodies the brand's dedication to producing reliable and elegantly designed timepieces.
This particular model is the first Roamer Standard model equipped with 15J that features the in-house MST Caliber 410 hand-wound movement, operating at 18,000 BPH. This MST movement named after Mr Stüdeli partnered Meyer (hence MST - Meyer + Stüdeli) is known for its durability and precision, reflecting Roamer's engineering excellence.
The watch showcases a pristine white dial with Mini-Seconds, adorned with applied gold Arabic Numerals + baton indices and dauphine hands, offering a timeless and sophisticated aesthetic. The gold-plated case measures 33mm in width and 41.7mm in height, providing a balanced presence on the wrist. The timepiece is complemented by a high-quality vintage leather strap, enhancing its classic appeal.
The original acrylic crystal has been carefully polished, restoring its clarity while preserving the watch's vintage charm. The crown, located at the 3 o'clock position, allows for manual winding and time-setting functions.
The movement was carefully stripped and meticulously cleaned, oiled, re-assembled and calibrated on 7 April 2025; hence, it should be able to operate unhindered until the next servicing thereby providing the owner peace of mind.
Equipped with the excellent 15J MST 401 movement, it operates at 18,000 BPH giving it excellent accuracy and longevity. The time-grapher, after 60 hours of calibration, shows excellent readings i.e. rate of -2 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 228 with a straight centered line! Such readings are truly exceptional even by brand new modern automatic watch standards whereby the accepted tolerance is -20 to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve and longevity for such a vintage timepiece, the meticulous care provided over the years, and of course the painstaking calibration conducted.
All components of this watch are believed to be original, with no aftermarket or modified parts. While the watch retains its original seals and gaskets, it has not been tested for water resistance due to its age.
Please note that this vintage watch does not come with its original box or documentation. However, it will be accompanied by a suitable aftermarket box or pouch for storage and presentation purposes.
The circa 1950s Roamer Standard Mini-Seconds 15J is a testament to the brand's dedication to quality and design, offering a piece of horological history that continues to impress collectors and enthusiasts alike.
