According to most legitimate online information available, the Seiko Caliber 560 movement found in the Crown SUWA made its debut in 1959. The 560 was in response to DAINI's Cronos debut in 1958.

The 560 movement is based on the Seiko Marvel / Gyro Marvel and is also the father of the first hand winding mechanical Grand Seiko (Cal 3180).

The Seiko Crown was initially introduced with 17 Jewels in 1959. Improvements were made almost immediately and 19, 21 and 23 Jewel models soon followed in 1960 and 1961. The 23J was renamed Seiko Crown Special. Its upgraded movement was renamed 341, and it was given a 14K solid gold indices and hands, and 14K gold-filled 80 micron case and crown.

For Seiko Collectors and Vintage fans, this is a highly sort-after September 1962 Seiko Crown Special, Model Caliber 341 23 Jewel 14K Gold-Filled 80 Micron SUWA Collectible mechanical watch in near-mint condition.

After a careful clean-up, this super rare Crown Special reveals a beautiful and immaculately preserved stunning silver-ivory-white dial, 3D 14K solid gold baton indices and dauphine hands.

This Cal 341 model 14K gold-filled 80 micron case was cleaned and buffed as best as possible albeit a few minor scratches that are barely noticeable. The crystal was replaced with a hi-quality Japanese made crystal and is now in mint condition. The crown is located at the traditional 3H position and is easily accessible.

The movement was carefully stripped and meticulously cleaned via ultrasonic immersion, oiled, re-assembled and calibrated on 7 June 2024; hence, it underwent an overhaul and should be able to operate unhindered until the next servicing thereby providing the owner peace of mind.

Equipped with the improved 341 movement, it has an impressive 23 Jewels that operate at 18,000 BPH. The time-grapher, after hours of calibration, shows superb readings of 0 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 271 with a centered straight line! Such readings are truly exceptional even by brand new modern automatic watch standards whereby the accepted tolerance is -20 to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve, the meticulous care provided over the years, and the painstaking expert calibration.

The case width and height are approx. 35mm (without crown) and 41.5mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm and the leather strap can accommodate wrists up to 20cm; hence, suitable for men and the modern women.

A brand new Bambi Brand dark brown vintage tapered leather strap with matching stitching and gold buckle is provided as part of the deal.

To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket or modified parts.

Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.

The pictures provided shows the watch in pristine condition (no dents and major scratches), and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear + tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A brand new EVA pouch is provided instead.
