This movement was extremely successful and was used in numerous vintage models including this dress watch.
For Seiko Collectors and Vintage fans, this is an NOS Seiko 5 6309-8980 SUWA in mint condition.
This classic 6309-8980 Automatic has a well-preserved champagne gold dial, 3D baton indices and dauphine lumen hands (that are operable), and date/day window that underwent a good clean-up thus revealing zero signs of aging. The hands are luminous. Cool!
The classic cylindrical shaped gold case and original Seiko Signed SS bracelet was given a full polish and are now in mint condition. The crystal is an original and is also in mint condition.
The crown is located at its traditional 4H position and tucked away nicely to prevent damage or snags, yet easily accessible.
The Hands and Day/Date adjustments are via the traditional method of uncorking the crown to the first and second level for date and time adjustment respectively.
The Day is in English and Roman Numerals, cool!
Even though it is an NOS, the movement was nonetheless carefully stripped and meticulously cleaned via ultrasonic immersion, oiled, re-assembled and calibrated on 28 February 2026; hence it underwent a full overhaul and should be able to operate unhindered until the next servicing thereby providing the owner a peace of mind.
Equipped with the famous 6309 workhorse movement, it has 17 jewels and operate at 21,600 BHP. The time-grapher shows excellent readings of -1 second with an amplitude of 190 with a relatively straight centerd line! Such readings are exceptional even by brand new modern automatic watch standards! This is a testament to the quality, the meticulous care provided over the years, and the painstaking expert calibration conducted.
The case width and height are approx. 37.5mm and 43.3mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm and the bracelet can accommodate wrists up to 20cm; hence, suitable for men and the modern women.
All seals and gaskets have been serviced/replaced. However, due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.
To the best of our knowledge while overhauling this timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket or modified parts.
The pictures provided shows the watch in mint condition, and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear + tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A brand-new EVA Pouch is provided.
This super rare watch will make a beautiful birthday present for that special someone born in November 1980, and its value will appreciate over time.
Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life and should be cared and cherished for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.
This particular NOS watch model is valued at S$ 473.00 on various auction / online sites. Note: the mentioned prices may / do not include currency conversions, commissions, taxes and freight costs etc.
This Fully Restored overhauled, calibrated, and polished with original SS bracelet is being sold here for S$ 455.00 which is extremely reasonable.
Do also bear in mind that it will cost between S$ 180.00 to S$ 200.00 for a proper overhaul, an estimated S$ 80.00 to calibrate, and S$ 80.00 to clean and polish the entire watch including bracelet link tightening - these costs do not apply when purchasing this timepiece. So, if anyone was to sell such a timepiece at a low price yet claim that it has been serviced, one has to ask what kind of servicing was conducted, if any.
This is a highly sort-after Seiko 5 6309-8840; so, be unique and own a November 1980 Birthday Watch that is almost impossible to source in mint condition.
