The company's founder, Mr Zenzaburō Yoshino (25 January 1911 — 23 November 1988), wherefrom the Latinized Zenza Bronica brand name is derived, was the third son born into a Japanese rice merchant family who envisioned creating a high-precision interchangeable single-lens reflex camera modular system of his own design.
Before introduction of the first of what would become a dynasty of Zenza Bronica cameras, the Zenza Bronica name was already a popular Japanese luxury goods brand of the Shinkodo Works since 1947, specialised in the production of intricate crafted and decorated personal accessories, such as metal cigarette lighters and cases, cosmetic compacts, and watches of diverse styles and designs. Mr Yoshino had Zenza Bronica luxury brand to finance his camera dream that would materialise when he officially launched his first camera at the Philadelphia Camera Show in 1959.
Meanwhile, his company continued to produce the luxury items that helped finance his budding business empire.
Mr Yoshino would pass on on 23 November 1988 and Bronica was eventually acquired by lens manufacturer, Tamron Co., Ltd., in July 1998 with emphasis on Bronica's optical lens manufacturing. Thus, the Bronica brand would belong to Tamron Co. Ltd that ceased production of all other products under the Zenza Bronica brand.
Here we have a truly rare Bronica Excellent BJ-2041DX Lady Quartz Watch in mint condition that uses a Seiko Hattori Epson Quartz Y121E which is one of the best quartz movements produced by Seiko Hattori Epson and is still in use in many of today's timepieces. It also has a gold plated dial, case and bracelet that oozes class.
Brands such as Anne Klein, Armitron, DMQ, Guess, Lacoste Goa, Liz Claiborne, Luck Brand, Nine West, Relic, Sutton New York, Vince Camuto, etc widely use this quartz movement.
This watch model was extremely popular in the Japanese market because of its classy dial and impressive Seiko watch movement within.
This timepiece was given a good servicing, and its dial was meticulously cleaned, its electronic movement cleaned and touched up, demagnetised, and its battery replaced on 9 April 2024. It should be able to operate unhindered until the next battery change thereby providing the owner peace of mind.
This beautifully shaped gold case also underwent a good rub while maintaining its super sexy curves and gold plating. Most imperfections were removed without compromising the case shape; however, the underside is pitted with age marks. The crystal is original and was also given a good polish.
The crown with faux jewel tip is original and is located at the 3H position and is nicely tucked away yet easily accessible.
The case width and height are approximately 22mm (without crown) and 19mm respectively. The lug width is 13mm and the strap can accommodate wrists up to 18cm thereabouts.
The Shark Mesh bracelet is original and came with the watch. It too was given a good clean-up and is now in near mint condition.
To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Bronica / Seiko Hattori Epson components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket parts or modified thereby it is considered in near MINT condition.
Even though the seals and gaskets are present, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested due to its age.
The pictures provided shows the watch case in excellent condition and well maintained. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A nice purposeful carrying case or box will be provided instead.
Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and well taken care of for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.
Yes, there are many other same models in the market, but almost all are not in the same quality condition and as well maintained as what you see here. So, it is a no-brainer that this one-of-a-kind timepiece will make an extremely beautiful birthday present for that someone special!
This is a rare Bronica Excellent in near mint condition; so, be unique and wear something that is almost impossible to source.
This is a must-have for the Bronica / Seiko die-hard fan, and in fact, any serious watch collector!
