Timex’s roots begin with the Waterbury Clock Company, founded in 1854 in Waterbury, Connecticut — a region known as the “Switzerland of America” because of its large clock- and watch-manufacturing industry.
As wristwatches became popular (especially after WWI), Waterbury shifted from pocket watches to wristwatches.
Waterbury partnered with Walt Disney to produce the first Mickey Mouse watch that was launched at the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair. It saved the company from financial collapse during the Great Depression, selling millions of units. This watch is one of the most iconic character timepieces ever made.
During WWII, Waterbury was reorganized into the U.S. Time Corporation to focus on military timing instruments, bomb fuses, and precision components. After the war, U.S. Time used its military precision engineering to create affordable, durable civilian watches.
In 1950, it formally introduced the Timex brand and became known as Timex Corporation that was later renamed Timex Group USA (Inc).
Timex became famous for extreme durability demonstrations shown on live television whereby watches were strapped to electric mixers, frozen in ice, attached to paint mixers and worn by athletes. It was even strapped to the hull of an outboard motor! These ads created the legendary slogan: “Timex — Takes a licking and keeps on ticking.”
This made Timex the No. 1 watch brand in the U.S. by the late 1950s.
During the 1970s, Timex adapted quickly when quartz watches disrupted the industry by introducing the Timex Q range in 1972 and introduced LED and LCD watches soon after. Timex introduced another iconic watch (The Ironman) in 1986 that became the world’s best-selling sports watch, popular with athletes.
From the 1850s to today, Timex has continually reinvented itself successfully and remains one of the most recognizable watch brands on Earth, known for its motto of durability and affordability.
Here we have another iconic Timex T2N810 known as the Intelligent Quartz (IQ) that includes a depth and temperature gauge in an oversized case that can handle a depth of 200m (20 ATM).
This rugged diver watch is in mint condition that underwent a good clean-up which in truth wasn't necessary because it was seldom used and is well taken care of. The crystal was polished albeit miniscule scratch marks are present but barely noticeable. The battery was replaced on 5 December 2025. The crown has been uncorked to prevent battery drainage; hence, it should be able to operate unhindered until the next battery change, thereby providing the owner peace of mind.
The case width and height are approximately 47.5mm (w/o crown) and 55.6mm respectively. The lug width is 22mm. Brand-new Silicon and NATO straps that can accommodate wrists up to 21cm come with this Timex; hence, the watch size is suitable for men and modern women.
To the best of our knowledge while servicing this timepiece, no parts were replaced with aftermarket parts, thereby it is considered in near mint condition.
The pictures provided shows the watch in near mint condition and well maintained. It also comes with its original box and papers.
This is a very lovely Timex IQ Divers in near-mint condition with full specs; so, be unique and wear a watch that is almost impossible to source or purchase it for that special someone.
This is a must-have for the Timex die-hard fan, and in fact, any serious diver or watch collector!
