Seiko Epson Corporation, commonly known as Seiko, acquired the Orient Watch Company in 2009. This acquisition allowed Seiko to expand its presence in the watch industry and further diversify its product offerings.
The Orient Watch Company is known for its own line of watches and has a history of producing affordable and well-regarded mechanical timepieces. This particular model was thus produced by Orient before Seiko's takeover.
This 1970s JDM Orient watch, model I469122-6A Military is a Collectible and is highly sort after due to its quality, solid construction, colour scheme and accuracy; but most importantly, the is a pre-Seiko ownership JDM Orient.
The Navy Blue Dial with central gold coin, Arabic Numeral Markers, Baton Hands, Date/Day Window and Case are in stunning condition after a good clean-up. The crystal is original and is in excellent condition after a good buff.
The crowns are located at its traditional 2H and 3H position and is nicely tucked away to prevent damage or snags yet easily accessible. The 2H crown adjusts the day; the 3H adjusts the date and time. Both crowns work as they should.
The movement was carefully stripped, cleaned, oiled, re-assembled and calibration conducted on 22 August 2024; hence it underwent an overhaul and should be able to operate unhindered until the next servicing thereby providing the owner peace of mind.
Equipped with the famous 46941 movement, it has 21 jewels and operates at 21,600 BPH. The time-grapher shows stunning readings of 0 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 225 with a straight centered line! Such readings are truly exceptional even by brand new modern automatic watch standards whereby the accepted tolerance is -20 to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve, the meticulous care provided over the years, and the painstaking calibration conducted.
The case width and height are approx. 38mm (w/o crown), and 41.7mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm and bracelet can accommodate wrists up to 19.5cm, thus this watch is suitable for men and the modern women.
A brand new hi-quality vintage designed genuine brown leather strap with silver buckle accompanies this timepiece.
To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Orient components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket or modified parts.
Even though the gaskets and seals are in place, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested due to its age.
The pictures provided shows the watch in stunning condition (no dents and major scratches), and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear + tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box, so a simple aftermarket box / pouch will be provided instead.
This extremely rare Orient Military style watch will make a beautiful birthday present for that special someone, and its value will appreciate over time.
Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and well taken care of for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.
Do also bear in mind that it will cost between S$ 180.00 to S$ 200.00 for a proper overhaul, an estimated S$ 80.00 to calibrate (depending on watch condition), and S$ 100.00 to clean and polish including tightening of bracelet links (if applicable) - these costs do not apply when purchasing this timepiece. So, if anyone was to sell such a timepiece at a low price yet claim that it has been serviced, one has to ask what kind of servicing was conducted, if any.
This is a truly magnificent Orient Military timepiece in stunning condition with a beautifully preserved unique and rare dial, immaculate indices, hands, movement and case; so, be unique and wear a watch that is almost impossible to source in such fine condition.
