Seiko shocked the world when they introduced the world's first quartz watch in December 1969 with an accuracy level of 5 seconds A MONTH which was 100 times more accurate than any other watch in the world; thus began the watch second revolution that would see many small to medium sized watch making companies close for business.

The Seiko 7548-7000 is one of the most important dive watches in Seiko's history. Although overshadowed by the later SKX007, collectors increasingly recognize the 7548-7000 as the true ancestor of the entire modern Seiko "Slim Turtle" and SKX family. It combines the legendary reliability of Seiko's early quartz technology with the rugged design language established by the famous automatic 6309 divers.

Unlike many manufacturers during the Quartz Crisis, Seiko did not simply install a cheap quartz movement into an existing case. They designed an entirely new movement specifically for heavy-duty diving.

The result was a watch that remained in production until approximately 1985, after which it evolved into the 7548-7010 and eventually the 7C43 and SKX series.

The 7548-7000 was introduced in late 1978 as Seiko's first mainstream 150-meter quartz diver. It appeared shortly after the professional quartz Tuna (7549-7000), which was the world's first professional quartz diver. The objective was to produce a slimmer, lighter and more accurate diving watch for recreational and professional use.

The Seiko Diver 7548-7000 Quartz was introduced in December 1983 to cater to the "yuppie" crowd who wanted a rugged divers' watch without the hassle of adjusting the date and time should the watch stop when not in use. And by now, quartz watches became a trend to own.

This rare December 1983 Vintage Seiko has a beautiful and immaculately preserved stunning dial so too the date / day window after a good clean-up. The lumen Hands and Indices do work and are in superb condition. Cool!

The case and case back were buffed as best as possible, but scratches do remain. The mineral glass is original and in good condition albeit a few scratches. The bezel was removed and given a good cleaning and works as it should.

The crown is located at the traditional 4H position and is nicely tucked away to prevent damage or snags. The date / day quickset works by uncorking the crown to the first level and the second level for the hand's adjustment.

Because it is a JDM, the Day is in Kanji and English, cool!

The movement was carefully stripped and meticulously cleaned in February 2023. The battery had been replaced hence it should be able to operate until the next battery change thereby providing the owner peace of mind.

Equipped with the 7548 movement, it has the impressive Hacking feature (the second hand stops when the crown is fully loosened / uncorked thus allowing for synchronization.

The case width and height are approximately 42.3mm (w/o crown) and 46.4mm respectively. The lug width is 22mm and the strap can accommodate wrists up to 21cm; hence, the watch size is suitable for men and the modern women.

The watch comes with a brand-new hi-quality Seiko Waffle Diver Strap as part of the deal.

To the best of our knowledge while servicing this timepiece, everything excluding the bracelet are 100% original Seiko. No parts were replaced with aftermarket or modified parts.

Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.

The pictures provided shows the watch in excellent condition (no dents and major scratches), and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A nice purposeful carrying case or box will be provided instead.

This rare timepiece will make a beautiful birthday present for that special someone born in December 1983, and its value will appreciate over time.

Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life and should be cherished and well taken care of for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.

This is a truly magnificent Seiko Diver 7548-7000 Quartz JDM in excellent condition; so, be unique and own a December 1983 Birthday Watch that is almost impossible to source in such fine condition or purchase it for that special someone instead.
