According to most reliable online information, the 3M22 Kinetic movement was introduced in circa 1993.

The 3M22 was Seiko's second Kinetic movement which combined the convenience of quartz accuracy with the self-charging capability of an automatic watch, using the motion of the wearer's wrist to generate electrical energy. The 3M22 features a rechargeable battery (capacitor) that stored energy generated by the kinetic rotor.

The 3M22 was part of Seiko's broader Kinetic line that underwent several updates and improvements over the years. As technology advanced, Seiko improved its Kinetic movements and introduced newer Kinetic movements with enhanced performance, such as the 5M42, 5M43 and later models like the 5M62 and 5M63 leading to the phase-out of older models like the 5M42. Again, according to most reliable online sites, Seiko ceased production of the 3M22 Kinetic movement circa 1998 but they were still selling up to 2012.

Here we have a super rare award winning Jorg Hysek designed June 1997 Seiko Kinetic 3M22-0D30 that has become a highly Collectible timepiece especially the black dial model that we see here. Jorg Hysek is a famous watch designer who has created various masterpieces over the years, and this is the first Seiko he had designed.

Even though it is an NOS (New Old Stock), this timepiece was nonetheless given a good servicing, and its  dial was meticulously cleaned, its electronic movement cleaned and touched up, demagnetised, and its battery capacitor replaced on 28 October 2025. It should be able to operate unhindered until the next battery capacitor change thereby providing the owner peace of mind.

This case was also given a good rub while maintaining its sharp lines and sexy curves. Most age related stains were removed without compromising the case shape. However, there is a miniscule scratche on the case at the 5H location. The crystal is original and was given a good rub as well and is also in near mint condition. The lumen for the button markers and hands are operable!

The crowns are located at the 2H and 3H position. The 2H Crown is for the resetting of the second hand while the 3H crown is for the date quickset.

The case width and height are approx. 32.6mm (w/o crown) and 44.8mm respectively. The lug width is 19mm and the bracelet can accommodate wrists up to 16cm; hence, it is suitable for both man and woman.

The bracelet is the original bracelet that accompanied this timepiece. It was also given a deep cleaning and is now in mint condition.

To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket or modified parts.

Even though its seals and gaskets are in place, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested due to its age.

The pictures provided shows the watch in mint condition and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear + tear, and improve accuracy. It also comes with its original box, manuals and warranty card!

This very rare timepiece will make a beautiful birthday present for that special someone born in June 1997, and its value will appreciate over time!

This particular NOS BNIB Black Dial Seiko Kinetic 3M22-0D30 timepiece is extremely rare and seldom sold online. There are no full set with bracelet being sold online at the time of writing.
