According to the most legitimate information found online, Seiko introduced the 6106 movement in 1967.
For Seiko Collectors and Vintage fans, this is a highly sort after October 1968 Seiko 5 DX UFO SUWA 6106-8070 25 Jewels Automatic Watch in excellent condition. DX means Deluxe and this is confirmed with the number of jewels (25).
The silvery-white dial, 2-tone baton indices and hands, day/date window and case are in near mint condition after a thorough clean-up.
The case had also undergone a good cleaning and a good buff and is in excellent condition albeit a few minor scratches that are barely noticeable. The crystal has been replaced with an original Seiko crystal and is now spotless. The original glass will be provided with this watch upon purchase.
The crown is located at its traditional 4H position and is nicely tucked away to prevent damage or snags yet easily accessible. The date quickset works as it should by pushing the crown in for adjustment.
The Day is only in English.
The movement was carefully stripped and meticulously cleaned via ultrasonic immersion, oiled, re-assembled and calibrated on 3 May 2024; hence it underwent an overhaul and should be able to operate unhindered until the next servicing thereby providing the owner a peace of mind.
Equipped with the famous 6106 movement, it has 25 jewels and operates at 21,600 BHP. The time-grapher shows excellent readings of 0 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 176 with a straight centered line! Such readings are truly exceptional even by brand new modern automatic watch standards whereby the accepted tolerance is -20 to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve, the meticulous care provided over the years, and the painstaking expert calibration.
The oversized case width and height are approx. 36mm (w/o crown), and 39mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm and the bracelet can accommodate wrists up to 20cm; thus, suitable for men and the modern women.
The bracelet is a hi-quality vintage Super Engineer SS bracelet that accompanied this timepiece. It too had undergone a thorough cleaning via ultrasonic immersion, tightening of links and a buff.
Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.
To the best of our knowledge while overhauling this timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket or modified parts.
The pictures provided shows the watch in stunning condition (no dents and major scratches), and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear + tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A brand new EVA pouch is provided instead.
This very rare watch will make a beautiful birthday present for that special someone born in October 1968, and its value will appreciate over time.
Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and well taken care of for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.
Do also bear in mind that it will cost between S$ 180.00 to S$ 200.00 for a full overhaul, an estimated S$ 80.00 to calibrate (depending on the condition of the watch), and S$ 100.00 to clean and polish including tightening of bracelet links - these costs do not apply when purchasing this timepiece. So, if anyone was to sell such a timepiece at a low price yet claim that it has been serviced, one has to ask what kind of servicing was conducted, if any.
This is a truly magnificent October 1968 Seiko 5 6106-8070 DX UFO SUWA in stunning condition; so, be unique and own a watch that is almost impossible to source.
This is a must-have for the Seiko die-hard fan, or any vintage watch fan for that matter!
