According to most legitimate online information available, the Seiko 410 movement with day and date made its debut at the end of 1963 and lasted until 1970 when it was superseded by the 6619 movement.
This 410 movement was renamed 6606 when Seiko began using 4 digits for their calibers. This movement was used in almost all Sportsmatic and in some Seikomatic models. The Sportsmatic was introduced to supersede the Gyro Marvel as the entry sports model.
For Seiko Collectors and Vintage fans, this is a highly sort-after Pre-SUWA (logo) Seiko Seikosha with Applied Dial (AD) in near mint condition.
A deep cleaning was conducted to reveal an immaculately preserved reflective Black Sunburst Dial that creates a stunning sunburst effect, gold-filled 3D baton indices, date / day window, hands and reflective chapter ring.
The timeless cylindrical shaped case also underwent ultrasonic cleaning and was buffed as best as possible; however, there are some hairline scratches present. The acrylic glass was replaced and is in pristine condition.
The crown is located at the traditional 4H position and is nicely tucked away to prevent damage or snags yet it is easily accessible. The date and time quickset works flawlessly by pulling out the crown to the first level and second level for respective adjustment. The day quickset is via turning the hands backwards and forwards past midnight.
The movement was carefully stripped and meticulously cleaned via ultrasonic immersion, oiled, re-assembled and calibrated on 14 June 2024; hence, it underwent an overhaul and should be able to operate unhindered until the next servicing thereby providing the owner peace of mind
Equipped with the well revered 410 movement, it has 21 Jewels that operate at 18,000 BPH. The time-grapher, after hours of calibration, shows excellent readings of +1 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 188 with a super straight and centered line! Such readings are truly exceptional even by brand new modern automatic watch standards whereby the accepted tolerance is -20 to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve, the meticulous care provided over the years, and the painstaking calibration conducted.
The case width and height are approximately 36.5mm (w/o crown) and 41.8mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm, and the strap can accommodate wrists up to 15cm; hence, suitable for men and the modern women.
The bracelet is a super rare Seiko 5 Signed SS Bracelet. It too was given a thorough cleaning via ultrasonic immersion and buffed thereafter.
To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket or modified parts.
Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.
The pictures provided shows the watch in pristine condition (no dents and major scratches), and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear + tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A brand new EVA pouch is provided instead.
This very rare black dial timepiece will make a beautiful birthday present for that special someone born in June 1964, and its value will appreciate over time.
This is a truly rare black dial June 1964 Seiko 5 Sportsmatic SUWA in stunning condition; so, be unique and own a watch that is almost impossible to source in such fine condition.
