According to most reliable online sources, this Seiko 5719A-458990 Mechanical Chronograph and the 6217 World Time were produced just prior to the Tokyo, Japan Olympics held in October 1964 - a marketing ploy to allow Seiko to gain worldwide attention because Seiko was chosen as the Tokyo Olympics Official Timekeeper. The marketing stunt worked magnificently!

This is the only Seiko watch that uses the 5717/5719 movement. The former comes with a date dial whilst the latter does not.

This is Seiko's first ever Chronograph, and it is a mechanical. This vintage has an "AD"(Applied Dial); hence, the markers shine brilliantly when it catches the light.

This very rare July 1964 Vintage Seiko has a beautiful and immaculately preserved metallic black sunburst dial that was given a good clean-up. The 3D-styled silver angled baton indices and dauphine hands are in near-mint condition after undergoing a good clean-up as well.

Its silver case was buffed as best as possible albeit minor scratches that are barely noticeable. The bi-directional Bakelite original bezel rotates smoothly. The crystal was replaced with a hi-quality Japanese OEM brand and buffed.

The crowns are located at the traditional 2H and 3H position and are nicely tucked away to prevent damage or snags, yet easily accessible.

The movement was carefully stripped, cleaned, oiled, re-assembled and calibrated on 27 July 2024. In short, it was given an overhaul, and should be able to operate unhindered until the next servicing thereby providing the owner peace of mind.

Equipped with the 5719A movement, it has 21 Jewels and operate at 18,000 BPH. The time-grapher, after hours of calibration, shows superb readings of -1 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 254 with a super straight line! Such readings are truly exceptional even by brand new modern automatic watch standards whereby the accepted tolerance is -20 to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve, the meticulous care provided over the years, and the painstaking calibration conducted.

To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket or modified parts.

Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested even though the seals and gaskets are present / intact.

The case width and height are approximately 37.5mm (w/o crown) and 44.6mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm and the strap can accommodate wrists up to 20.0cm; thus, suitable for men and the modern women.

A brand-new hi-quality Black Aviation Bund Genuine Calf Leather Strap is is provided. Seiko watches did not come with Seiko bracelets until Seiko began producing their own bracelets circa1968. FYI.

The pictures provided shows the watch in stunning condition, and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear & tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. An aftermarket box or purposeful carrying case will be provided instead.

This extremely rare watch will make a beautiful birthday present for that special someone born in July 1964, and its value will appreciate over time.

This is an extremely rare Metallic Black Sunburst Dial July 1964 Seiko SUWA Mechanical Chronograph 5719A-458990 AD Timepiece; so, be unique and wear a watch that is almost impossible to source in such stunning condition.
