According to most legitimate online information, the Seiko Bellmatic series was first introduced in 1966. This series marked a significant development in Seiko's history, as it combined automatic movements with an alarm function, creating a unique and distinctive timepiece.

The Bellmatic gained popularity for its practicality, innovative and its unique built-in alarm that can be set using an additional crown or pusher. When the alarm is triggered, a distinctive sound is produced, often described as a buzzing or ringing noise.

The Bellmatic comes in 17J, 21J and 27J. The watch ceased production circa 1978, and had thus gained Collectible status almost immediately.

For Seiko Collectors and Vintage fans, this is a JDM overhauled Seiko Bellmatic 4006-7010 SUWA 27J in stunning condition. The alarm works flawlessly. The 4006-70XX is the highest range and is the most desirable amongst collectors.

It's original silvery-white dial, 3D silver baton indices, logo, and baton hands are in near mint condition after a good clean-up. The crystal is original and was given a good clean-up and buff as well.

Its typical shaped silver case was given a thorough clean-up via ultrasonic immersion and is now in excellent condition after a good buff. The shape remains sharp and clean albeit miniscule scratches due to age.

The crowns are located at the traditional 2H and 3H positions and are easily accessible. The date and time quickset works flawlessly by pushing in the 2H crown and pulling out the 3H crown respectively. The day quickset is via rotating the crown to and from 8H and 4H pass midnight.

Because it is a JDM model, the Day is in English and Kanji, cool!

The movement was carefully stripped and meticulously cleaned via ultrasonic immersion, oiled and re-assembled on 8 November 2023; thus it had undergone an overhaul and not a general servicing. It should be able to operate unhindered for the next 5 to 10 years at the least thereby providing the owner peace of mind.

Equipped with the 4006 movement, it has 27 Jewels that operate at 19,800 beats per hour (BPH) giving it excellent longevity and accuracy. The time-grapher, after 60 hours of calibration, shows excellent readings i.e. rate of -1 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 157 with a relatively straight line! Such readings are exceptional even by brand new modern automatic watch standards whereby the accepted tolerance is -20 to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve and longevity for such a vintage timepiece, the meticulous care provided over the years, and of course the painstaking calibration conducted.

The case width and height are approximately 39mm (without crown) and 43mm respectively. The lug width is 19mm and the strap can accommodate wrists up to 21cm; hence, the watch size is suitable for men and the modern women.

Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.

A brand-new hi-quality black suede genuine leather strap with silver buckle is selected to marry with the dial indices, hands and case. The Buyer has the option to choose a different design and coloured strap from my array of straps should he / she wishes to do so.

To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket parts or modified.

The pictures provided show the watch’s case in pristine condition (no major dents and scratches), and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear & tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. An aftermarket box / case will be provided instead.

Seldom can one find a vintage watch that offers this and more. Yes, there are many other same / similar models in the market, BUT none are as well-kept and maintained as what you see here, and with an attractive price to boot. So, it is a no-brainer that this one-of-a-kind watch will make an extremely beautiful birthday present for that special someone born in April 1978! Another no-brainer is the fact that the value of this watch will appreciate over time.

Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and well taken care of for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.

Do also bear in mind that it will cost between S$ 250.00 to S$ 300.00 for an overhaul, an estimated S$ 80.00 to calibrate (depending on watch condition), and S$ 100.00 to clean, buff and tighten links for such a watch with bracelet - these costs do not apply when purchasing this timepiece. So, if anyone was to sell such a timepiece at a low price yet claim that it has been serviced, one has to ask what kind of servicing was conducted, if any.

This is truly a rare and highly sort after April 1978 Seiko Bellmatic 4006-7010 27J with a beautifully preserved silvery-white dial, immaculate indices, hands, movement and case; so, be unique and use something that is almost impossible to source.

This watch looks even more stunning in real-time!

This is a must-have for the Seiko die-hard fan, or any vintage watch fan for that matter!
