Adidas was founded by Adolf "Adi" Dassler on 18 August 1949 in Herzogenaurach, Germany. Adi Dassler (hence Adidas) was a skilled cobbler who started making athletic shoes in his mother's kitchen. He and his brother, Rudolf Dassler, originally ran a shoe business together, but they later parted ways, with Rudolf going on to establish Puma.

Adidas introduced their iconic Three-Striped-Logo in 1949 but the brand and logo became world famous when Adi incorporated studs onto his football boots that provided better tractor and ball control. The result - West Germany won their first World Cup in 1954. This made the 3-Striped-Logo brand world famous, and the rest is history.
