For Seiko Collectors and Vintage fans, this is a Seiko 2220-3172 Chariot Hi-Beat Mechanical Watch in near mint condition.
According to most legitimate online information available, the Seiko Caliber 2220 movement made its debut circa 1970. It was one of the last mechanical movements produced by Seiko before the ascension of the quartz movement.
This is a highly sort-after Seiko DAINI, Model 2220-3172 24 Jewel Mechanical Watch. The Cal 2220 is extremely rare thereby its Collectible status.
This seldom seen September 1974 Vintage Seiko had undergone a thorough deep cleaning and now spots a beautiful and stunning 2 tone curtain silvery-white dial, 3D Baton Indices, Baton Hands and silver case in pristine condition. The crystal is original and given a thorough buffing.
The crown is located at the traditional 3H position and is easily accessible. The time setting is via pulling the crown out and adjusting accordingly.
This beautiful preserved watch was carefully stripped, meticulously cleaned, oiled, re-assembled and calibrated on 3 August 2024. It should be able to operate unhindered until the next servicing thereby providing the owner peace of mind.
Equipped with the 2220 Caliber movement, it has 24 Jewels that operate at hi-beat 28,800 BPH. The time-grapher, after hours of calibration, shows excellent readings of +1 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 191 with a super straight centered line! Such readings are truly exceptional even by brand new modern automatic watch standards whereby the accepted tolerance is -20 to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve, the meticulous care provided over the years, and the painstaking calibration conducted.
The case width and height are approximately 30mm (w/o crown) and 31.5mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm and the bracelet can accommodate wrists up to 20cm; hence this watch is suitable for both men and the modern women.
To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket parts or modified thereby it is considered in near MINT condition.
Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.
The pictures provided shows the watch in pristine condition (no dents and major scratches), and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear & tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A nice purposeful carrying case or box will be provided instead.
This is an extremely rare timepiece and will make a beautiful birthday present for that special someone born in September 1974, and its value will appreciate over time.
Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and well taken care of for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.
This particular watch model is extremely rare and not easily found online for sale.
Do also bear in mind that it will cost between S$ 180.00 to S$ 200.00 for a thorough servicing, and an estimated S$ 80.00 to 100.00 to calibrate, and S$ 60.00 to clean and buff the case and SS bracelet - these costs do not apply when purchasing this timepiece. So, if anyone was to sell such a timepiece at a low price yet claim that it has been serviced, one has to ask what kind of servicing was conducted, if any.
This is a truly stunning September 1974 Seiko Mechanical Timepiece DAINI Watch in near mint condition with a beautifully preserved vintage dial, indices, hands, movement, and case; so, be unique and wear a watch that is almost impossible to source in such stunning condition.
