In the late 1980s and 1990s, Seiko, known for its innovative approach to watchmaking, began exploring collaborations with various designers to create watches that were not only precise timepieces but also fashion statements.

The Seiko Sottsass Series is a distinctive quartz watch range that was designed by the famous Italian designer Ettore Sottsass of Memphis Group. The design of the Seiko Sottsass reflects Sottsass’s signature style, with bold, geometric shapes and a playful use of colors and materials. The watch often features unconventional color combinations and unique case designs that stand out from typical watch designs of the era. This makes it a collector’s item, particularly for those who appreciate postmodern design and the legacy of the Memphis Group.

This collaboration between Seiko and Sottsass is an interesting intersection of Japanese watchmaking precision and Italian design flair, resulting in a timepiece that stands out both aesthetically and functionally.

In 1993, the first Seiko Sottsass Associates Limited Edition model was launched with great success. Since then, Seiko has launched 2 more Sottsass Limited Edition ranges. This 7T92-0SN0 was launched in October 1997 with a limited edition quantity of 1,000pcs. This is the 0045/1000.

This timepiece was given a good servicing, and its dial was meticulously cleaned, its electronic movement cleaned and touched up, demagnetised, and its battery replaced on 3 July 2023. It should be able to operate unhindered until the next battery change thereby providing the owner peace of mind.

This case was also given a good rub while maintaining its sharp lines and sexy curves. Most imperfections were removed without compromising the case shape. There are miniscule scratches especially on the case-back with is synonymous with age. The crystal is original and was given a good rub as well and is also in mint condition.

The crowns are located at the traditional 2H, 3H and 4H positions and are easily accessible. The 2H is used for the stopwatch start/stop and 4H is used for stopwatch reset. The 3H crown is used for the the date and main hands quickset adjustments.

The case width and height are approximately 39mm (w/o crown) and 40.6mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm and the strap can accommodate wrists up to 21cm; hence, it is suitable for both man and the modern woman.

A brand-new good quality 2 tone NATO strap with silver buckle is included.

To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket or modified parts.

Even though its seals and gaskets are in place, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested due to its age.

The pictures provided shows the watch in excellent condition and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear & tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A nice purposeful carrying case or box will be provided instead.

Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and well taken care of for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.
