Baume & Mercier is a Swiss luxury watchmaking company with a rich history dating back to 1830. The brand was founded by brothers Louis-Victor and Célestin Baume in the Jura Mountains region of Switzerland.

The Baume brothers laid the foundation for the brand in 1830, and later, in 1918, they joined forces with Paul Mercier to create Baume & Mercier. This collaboration marked the beginning of the brand as it is known today.

Baume & Mercier has a strong commitment to Swiss watchmaking traditions. The brand places emphasis on precision, quality, and attention to detail in the creation of its timepieces.

Here we have an all-time classic - the Lady Hampton 65340. The Baume & Mercier Hampton series was launched in 1994. The Hampton collection is known for its distinctive rectangular and square cases, inspired by the Art Deco style. The design of the Hampton series was influenced by a vintage Baume & Mercier watch from the 1940s, which the brand reinterpreted with modern aesthetics while retaining the elegance and refinement associated with the Art Deco movement.

Its unique shaped case with sunburst white dial, Arabic and Baton Indices and skeleton hands are in stunning condition after a good deep clean-up that removed most of the obvious scratches and age marks.

The movement was replaced with a brand new movement on 6 August 2024 that included a new battery, and should be able to operate unhindered until the next servicing thereby providing the owner peace of mind.

The signed crown is located at the 3H position and is neatly tucked away to prevent damage and snags; yet, easily accessible. The hands quickset operate in the traditional manner by pulling out and rotating the crown accordingly.

The watch comes with a good quality genuine black leather strap with silver buckle.

The case width and height are approx. 17mm (w/o crown) and 25.4mm respectively. The lug width is 12mm and the strap can accommodate wrists up to 17.5cm.

This timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.

The pictures provided shows the watch in near-mint condition, and the movement within is squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear + tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A nice purposeful carrying case or box will be provided instead.

Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and well taken care of for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.
