Arai "Fast" Freddie Spencer F1 1985 Autographed Helmet Original Replica Collectible Helmet

“Fast” Freddie Spencer became Arai’s first motorcycle world champion when he clinched the 1983 500GP championship on his Honda NS 500. Along with being the youngest ever MotoGP champion, Freddie Spencer is also the only rider in history to have won the 500cc and 250cc championships in the same year, which he did in 1985. This fact alone is amazing because the rider has to participate in twice the number of races around the world, thus I doubt this feat will ever be challenged.

This is an original Arai F1 Model Freddie Spencer autographed edition replica helmet. This is a very rare and collectable helmet. It was purchased new in 1985 and I retired it in 1988 when I switched riding bikes for cars.

Exterior condition: A few dinks and scratches, but all decals, and especially the gold signature, are in extremely good condition. The original white plastic visor screws have been replaced with original Arai visor transparent screws because the white ones are no longer available. They required replacement because they had become brittle and 2 broke over time. The helmet also comes with the original helmet blue cloth bag.

Interior condition: Poor. The side and cheek paddings have compressed, crusted up and has lost its spongy-ness. There is wear in the chin strap but the buckles have been cleaned and slightly oiled. I did want to re-cushion the helmet but I was informed that the padding for this model is no longer produced. Furthermore, the bike shop owner advised me not to re-cushion the helmet because it loses its authenticity (and value).

All air-intake vents are operable and so too the original shield eyebrow vents. Due to the condition of the interior padding and the helmet’s age (and this being a collector’s item to symbolise his 1985 250cc and 500cc championship wins), this helmet should not be used as protective riding gear. It should be purchased as a Freddie Spencer collectable by a MotoGP racing, or motorcycle history fan and stored in a proper showcase to show the world that the one and only ever 250 and 500cc champion has a place in your collector’s room.

The last Fast Freddie Autographed Helmet (in almost the same condition) was auctioned off above 1,000 British Sterling Pounds in 2019, hence my asking price of S$ 886.00 is practically a steal!
