According to most reliable on-line sources, the Seiko Sportsmatic 6619 movement made its debut in 1964 circa October to coincide with the Tokyo, Japan Olympics. The 6619 comes from the 66XX series that originated from the Caliber 410 which commenced the Sportsmatic series in 1963. The 6619 is Seiko's first ever timepiece to have a quickset date via pushing in the Crown.

This December 1964 has an immaculately preserved two-toned semi-linen finish Dial that creates a stunning yet a calming effect after being subjected to a good clean-up. The 3D gold-plated 12H marker and hands, reflective chapter ring, and date / day window were also cleaned and are now magnificent in looks.

The gold plated case was buffed as best as possible and is in stunning condition albeit miniscule scratches synonymous with age that are barely noticeable. The crystal was replaced with a hi-quality Japan Made crystal.

The crown is located at the traditional 4H position and is nicely tucked away to prevent damage or snags. The day / date quickset works flawlessly by pushing the crown in to adjust the date and pulling out the crown to adjust the time. There is NO day quickset.

The Day is only in English, cool!

The movement was carefully stripped and meticulously cleaned via ultrasonic immersion, oiled and re-assembled on 27 April 2024. In short, it was given an overhaul and not a standard touch-up service, and should be able to operate unhindered until the next servicing thereby providing the owner peace of mind.

Equipped with the 6619 movement, it has 21 Jewels and operate at 18,000 BPH. Because of its excellent condition, a basic instead of a thorough calibration was conducted that shows ±10 seconds a day. 

Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.

To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket or modified parts.

The case width and height are approx. 36mm (w/o crown) and 42mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm and the vintage expendable bracelet can accommodate wrists up to 20.0cm; hence, this watch is suitable for men and the modern women.

The pictures provided shows the watch in near mint condition, and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear + tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A brand-new EVA pouch is provided instead.

Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and preserved for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.

This rare vintage watch will make a beautiful birthday present for that special someone born in December 1964, and its value will appreciate over time.

Do also bear in mind that it will cost between S$ 180.00 to S$ 200.00 for a proper overhaul, an estimated S$ 80.00 to calibrate (depending on watch condition), and S$ 100.00 to clean and polish including tightening of bracelet links (if applicable) - these costs do not apply when purchasing this timepiece. So, if anyone was to sell such a timepiece at a low price yet claim that it has been serviced, one has to ask what kind of servicing was conducted, if any.
