According to most reliable online sources, Seiko SUWA developed the 83XX series in 1963 - an automatic movement that also incorporated the mechanical winding feature. It also uses certain elements of the 62XX series movements with the intention to create a slimmer (dress) watch.

This April 1965 Seiko 8305-0020, Seikomatic-R, 30 Jewels Automatic timepiece is the predecessor to the 8306 Business-A model. The "R" stands for "Re-worked," hence it is an improved 840 movement, perhaps incorporating certain elements of the 62XX series into this movement.

Originally meant for the Japanese market, this has become a highly sort-after Collectible.

For Seiko Collectors and Vintage fans, this is a Seiko SUWA but without the logo, in stunning condition, hence the Dolphin located on the case-back. The "AD" (Applied Dial) indicates that the indices are elevated and are supposedly pure silver filled what with the material quality and excellent lifespan.

It's original ivory-white sunburst dial, pure silver baton markers, dauphine hands and date window is in mint condition after a thorough clean-up. The crystal was replaced with an NOS Seiko crystal and buffed to perfection.

Its silver case was also given a thorough clean-up and is near mint condition albeit miniscule scratches and age marks that are barely noticeable.

The crown is original and is located at the 4H position and nicely tucked away. The date and hands quickset operates in the traditional manner by pulling the crown to the first and second levels respectively.

The movement was carefully stripped and meticulously cleaned via ultrasonic immersion, oiled, re-assembled and calibrated in 15 July 2024; hence, it underwent an overhaul and should be able to operate unhindered until the next servicing thereby providing the owner peace of mind.

Equipped with the classic 8305 movement, it has an impressive 30 Jewels that operate at 18,000 BPH. The time-grapher, after hurs of calibration, shows superb readings of 0 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 217 with a good centered line! Such readings are truly exceptional even by brand new modern automatic watch standards whereby the accepted tolerance is -20 to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve, the meticulous care provided over the years, and the painstaking calibration conducted.

The case width and height are approximately 37.5mm (w/o crown) and 42mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm, and the strap can accommodate wrists up to 19cm; hence, suitable for men and the modern women.

The watch comes with a brand-new hi-quality CITES Approved hand-stitched accredited genuine python skin for added class.

To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket or modified parts.

The pictures provided shows the watch in near mint condition, and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear + tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A nice purposeful carrying case or box will be provided instead.

Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.
