Juvenia was founded in 1860 by Jacques Didisheim-Goldschmidt in Saint-Imier, Switzerland. The brand quickly gained recognition for its high-quality timepieces, combining precision craftsmanship with elegant design.
Throughout its history, Juvenia has been known for its innovative approach to watchmaking. In the early 20th century, the brand introduced several groundbreaking inventions, including the first wristwatch with a jumping hour display in 1929 and the "Arithmo" model, which featured a unique digital time display, in the 1930s.
During the mid-20th century, Juvenia experienced a period of prosperity and expansion. The brand's watches were favored by celebrities, dignitaries, and royalty, further enhancing its reputation for luxury and exclusivity.
Juvenia has collaborated with various artists, designers, and celebrities over the years to create special edition timepieces. These partnerships have helped to elevate the brand's profile and introduce its watches to new audiences.
Like many luxury watch brands, Juvenia has evolved with the times, adapting its designs and technologies to meet the changing tastes and preferences of consumers. While remaining true to its heritage of fine watchmaking, Juvenia continues to innovate and introduce new models to its collection.
Today, Juvenia continues to produce luxury timepieces that uphold the brand's tradition of excellence and innovation. Its watches are sought after by collectors and enthusiasts for their quality craftsmanship, distinctive design, and historical significance.
Here we have an overhauled circa 1950s Juvenia Mystere Skeleton Gold-Plated 17J Mechanical Watch in excellent condition.
A good and thorough clean-up revealed a beautiful and unique Dial, 3D Gold-Plated Block Indices and Red Arrow Hands in a Skeleton Case.
Its gold-plated case and crystal were buffed as best as possible without compromising its shape, lines and gold-plating albeit a few minor scratches that are barely noticeable.
The signed crown is located at the traditional 3H position and is easily accessible.
The movement was carefully stripped and meticulously cleaned, oiled, re-assembled, and calibrated on 5 May 2024. In short, it was given an overhaul and should be able to operate unhindered until the next servicing thereby giving the owner peace of mind.
Equipped with the Cal 965 movement, it has 17 Jewels and operate at 18,000 BPH. The time-grapher shows excellent readings of -67 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 203 with a straight line. Such readings are exceptional even by brand new modern automatic watch standards whereby the accepted tolerance is -20 to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve, the meticulous care provided over the years, and expert calibration.
The case width and height are approx. 23mm (w/o crown) and 32mm respectively. The lug width is 10mm and the strap can accommodate wrists up to 17cm.
The timepiece comes with its original genuine leather strap with gold buckle.
To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Juvenia components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket or modified parts.
Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.
The pictures provided shows the watch in excellent condition. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear + tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. A brand new EVA pouch is provided instead.
This extremely rare watch will make a beautiful birthday present for that special someone, and its value will appreciate over time.
Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and preserved for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.
This is a must-have for the Juvenia die-hard fan, and in fact, any serious watch collector for that matter!
