Ladies and Gentlemen, this is an Orient Caliber 59742 Re-Edition Japanese Domestic Model (JDM) Automatic Watch.
Due to the success of this 1950s to 1960s model, Orient decided to relaunch a re-edition of this timeless beauty ONLY IN JAPAN. Thus, this is a highly sort after 1995 Orient in extraordinary condition that is not easy to find on most auction and online sales sites.
This is a highly sort-after Collectible for many reasons but mainly, it is an Orient produced by Orient before Seiko became the majority shareholder in 2001 and complete ownership in 2009.
This simple yet very rare silvery-white dial, 14K solid-gold Indices, dauphine hands and two-toned gold/silver case are in mint condition after a good clean-up. The case back is glass and very clear, hence its beautiful movement within is easily seen. The lumen indices and hands are operable - cool!
The crown is original and located at its traditional 3H position and is easily accessible. The date and time adjustment operates in the traditional method of adjustments and functions smoothly.
The movement was carefully stripped and meticulously cleaned via ultrasonic immersion, oiled, re-assembled and calibrated on in August 2022; hence, it underwent an overhaul and not a general servicing. It should be able to operate unhindered for the next 5 to 10 years thereby giving the owner peace of mind.
Equipped with the famous 59742 movement, it has 21 jewels and operates at 21,600 beats an hour giving it an extremely high level of accuracy. The time-grapher after 60 hours of calibration shows excellent readings i.e. rate of +10 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 223! Such readings are exceptional even in modern brand new automatic watches whereby the accepted tolerance is -20- to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve and longevity for such a vintage timepiece, the meticulous care provided over the years, and of course the painstaking expert calibration.
The case width and height are approximately 34.5mm (without crown) and 40mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm, and the leather strap provided can accommodate wrists up to 20cm, thus suitable for men and the modern women.
Due to its age, this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.
This watch comes with its original strap that has seen many years of use; so an additional two-toned genuine leather strap with silver buckle and equipped with quick release spring bars is provided. The Buyer has the option to choose which coloured strap he / she wishes to own.
To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Orient components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket parts or modified thereby it is considered in near MINT condition.
The pictures provided show the watch’s case is in immaculate condition (no dents and major scratches), and the movement within is squeaky clean and well maintained. It has also been demagnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear & tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box. An aftermarket box or purposeful carrying case will be provided instead.
Seldom can one find a vintage watch that offers this and more. Yes, there are many other same / similar models in the market, BUT none are as well kept and maintained as what you see here, and with an attractive price to boot. Hence, it is a no-brainer that this one-of-a-kind watch will make an extremely beautiful birthday present for that special someone born in 1995. Another no-brainer is the fact that the value of this watch will appreciate over time.
Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and well taken care of for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.
Do also bear in mind that it will cost between S$ 180.00 to S$ 200.00 for a complete overhaul, an estimated S$ 80.00 to calibrate, and S$ 40.00 to clean and buff such a watch, and S$ 40.00 for the additional leather watch strap - these costs do not apply when purchasing this timepiece. So, if anyone was to sell such a timepiece at a low price yet claim that it has been serviced, one has to ask what kind of servicing was conducted, if any.
This is an extremely rare and highly sort-after 1995 Orient ATMIX JDM Re-Edition with a beautiful silver-ivory-white dial and near-mint conditioned indices, hands, movement and case; so, be unique and use something that is almost impossible to source.
This is a must-have for the Orient die-hard fan, or any vintage watch fan for that matter!
