According to most legitimate online information available, the Seiko 7S26 and 7S36 movements made their debuts in 1996. This 7S26 movement was the backbone of the Seiko 5 range and many other models such as the Diver SKX00, the SNK 7S26 and this range as well.
The 7S26C was the last variant that officially debuted in 2011 worldwide. The 7S26 and 7S36 was discontinued in 2018 in favour of the 4R3X range that had hacking features.
According to most reliable online sources, this watch model was discontinued in 2006 and is fast becoming a Collectible as it will soon reach the 30 year milestone.
This watch was carefully stripped and meticulously cleaned via ultrasonic immersion, oiled, re-assembled and calibrated. In short, it was given an overhaul and not a general servicing, and should be able to operate unhindered for the next 5 to 10 years thereby providing the owner peace of mind. .
It is in excellent condition as proved by the pictures provided. The Midnight Black Dial, lumens, hands and chapter ring are almost spotless and do not show any signs of age after careful cleaning. The Dial and Hand lumens are also working well.
Its typical cylindrical shaped sandblasted finished case was cleaned and buffed as best as possible but miniscule hairline scratches may still be present but almost unnoticeable unless one is looking for them.
The crown is located at the traditional 4H position and is neatly tucked away to prevent damage and snags.
Equipped with the 7S26C modern movement, it has an impressive ~41 hours power reserve, and 21 Jewels that operate at 21,600 beats per hour (BPH) giving it excellent longevity and accuracy. The time-grapher, after 60 hours of calibration, shows excellent readings i.e. rate of +5 seconds every 24 hours and amplitude of 218! Such readings are exceptional even by brand new modern automatic watch standards whereby the accepted tolerance is -20 to +40 seconds a day! This is a testament to the quality, excellent power reserve and longevity for such a vintage timepiece, and of course the meticulous care provided over the years, and expert calibration.
Case width and height are approximately 38.0mm (without crown) and 43mm respectively. The lug width is 18mm and the strap can accommodate wrists up to 21cm; hence, this watch size is suitable for men and the modern women.
The watch comes with the original Seiko NATO strap; however, a brand new Aviation Bund NATO Military Style Nylon Strap with calf leather padding is also provided as part of the deal.
To the best of our knowledge and expertise when overhauling the timepiece, the watch is 100% original Seiko components from this particular watch. No parts were replaced with aftermarket parts or modified thereby it is considered in near MINT condition.
Due to its age, please note that this timepiece has not been water-resistant tested.
The pictures provided show the watch’s case in excellent condition (no dents and major scratches), and the movement within squeaky clean and well maintained This beautiful watch has been de-magnetised to improve parts reliability, minimise wear & tear, and improve accuracy. The only drawback is the lack of documentation and original box, so a nice purposeful carrying case or box will be provided instead.
Bear in mind that this watch has seen many of the previous owners’ ups and downs in life, and should be cherished and well taken care of for the next generation to savour such engineering beauty.
Yes, there are many other same / similar models in the market, BUT none as beautifully aged and as well maintained as what you see here. Hence, it is a no-brainer that this one-of-a-kind watch will make an extremely beautiful birthday present for that special someone born in September 2000! Another no-brainer is the fact that the value of this watch will appreciate over time.
Do also bear in mind that it will cost between S$ 180.00 to S$ 200.00 for a proper overhaul, an estimated S$ 80.00 to calibrate (depending on watch condition), and S$ 40.00 to clean and polish such a watch case, and S$ 40.00 for the high-quality Aviation Bund NATO strap with calf leather padding - these costs do not apply when purchasing this timepiece. So, if anyone was to sell such a timepiece at a low price yet claim that it has been serviced, one has to ask what kind of servicing was conducted, if any.
A truly impressive horology vintage piece I must sincerely admit; so, be unique and own something that is difficult to source and beautifully maintained.
This is a must-have for the Seiko die-hard fan, or any vintage watch fan for that matter!
